Comparing Pasadena and Fairmont

Pasadena is part of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan region, while Fairmont is a rural location 40 miles north of Pasadena, though also in LA county, separated from it by the San Gabriel Mountains.  Here is how the two locations compare with regard to days of extreme heat.  The graph shows the annual number of days reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more at the two locations.

Both Pasadena and Fairmont have trended toward increased annual days over 100 F, but the rate of increase is more than three times as much for Pasadena, trending upward with greater than seven additional days over 100 degrees recently compared to a century ago.  For Fairmont, the trend is toward an additional two days above 100 F recently, compared to a century ago.  Both locations show the warming over the last century, due to natural and anthropogenic changes.  The difference between the two records may be indicative of the magnitude of the Urban Heat Island enhancement of temperatures in highly urbanized settings like Pasadena, relative to Fairmont.
